Note:
George Stoneman was born in Busti, NY on August 22, 1822. He graduated from West Point in 1846 and served as Quartermaster
of the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War. During the Civil War he attained the rank of Major General and participated
in several campaigns, although his effectiveness was criticized and he was at one point captured by the Confederate Army.
Leaving the service in 1871, Stoneman moved to California where he served as Railroad Commisioner, and as Governor from 1883
to 1887. He died in Buffalo, NY on September 5, 1894.
